Headteacher Welcome
Building Futures Shaped by Faith, Knowledge and Love
I’m delighted that you have taken the time to have a look at our website and to find out about our school. I am Lynsey Wagstaff, and I am delighted to have been appointed to the role of Headteacher at such a wonderful, warm and friendly school. I am a shared Head across the federation of schools, supporting not only Denby First School but the schools of Farnley Tyas and Thurstonland too. Each school has its own unique character and qualities, evident as you step through the door, but together we embody our federation moto which is ‘small village schools working stronger together’.
Denby First School is a small, rural school on the outskirts of Huddersfield. We are set in a beautiful location in the centre of Denby village. We are an active part of the community, with strong links to many local community groups and especially St John The Evangelist Church which is right on our doorstep. As a small church school we pride ourselves on the strong, positive relationships we build with our pupils and their families, allowing us to really know our children and provide the support they need to achieve their very best. Our families speak positively about their experiences being part of our Denby family. We provide a nurturing, safe and Christian environment where pupils and adults can learn effectively and meet their full potential.
We are extremely proud to be part of The Green Hills First Federation of Schools. We have been a federation for several years and share one passionate and active governing body who support the work of all three of our schools. Our governing body is made up of representatives from all three of our schools – parents, staff, community members and representatives from the local churches with whom we form a close link. We also fall within the Shelley Pyramid of Schools and the majority of our pupils move from Denby First School at the end of Year 5 to Scissett Middle School and then onto Shelley College. The wider links we share support us to provide the most effective curriculum for our pupils.
We have high expectations and standards with regards to attendance, achievement, behaviour and involvement in school life, which parents and visitors can actively see within our school building. We warmly welcome visits to school by appointment and we would be happy to show you around our school if you would like to find out more about Denby and the Green Hills First Federation.
Many thanks
Mrs. Lynsey Wagstaff
